Robert W. Hahn, Ph.D., Senior Expert

Robert Hahn is Senior Expert at Empiris and is Founder and Executive Director of the Reg-Markets Center at AEI, which continues the AEI-Brookings Joint Center's mission of examining cutting-edge issues in law and economics, regulation and antitrust. He is also a senior visiting fellow at the Smith School at Oxford. Dr. Hahn's current research focuses on energy and environmental issues.

Previously, he worked for the Council of Economic Advisers, where he helped design the innovative market-based approach for reducing acid rain. Dr. Hahn also has served on the faculties of Harvard University and Carnegie Mellon University. He frequently contributes to leading scholarly journals and general-interest periodicals, including the American Economic Review, Yale Law Journal, Science, and the New York Times. Dr. Hahn is the author of Reviving Regulatory Reform: A Global Perspective (AEI-Brookings) and several other books. In addition, Dr. Hahn is co-founder of the Community Preparatory School--an inner-city middle school in Providence, Rhode Island, that provides opportunities for disadvantaged youth to achieve their full potential.

Dr. Hahn is a prolific economist who has written numerous articles and frequently contributes to general-interest periodicals and leading scholarly journals including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the American Economic Review, the Journal of Economic Perspectives, and the Yale Law Journal.  He is the author of several books, including Reviving Regulatory Reform: A Global Perspective (AEI-Brookings). He has also testified before several government agencies on policy issues ranging from net neutrality to government oversight.
